Five subject areas form the heart of our kindergarten year — each one hands-on, discussion-rich, and elevated by music, song and dance.
Understanding the alphabet and reading comprehension leads the way. Teachers guide group book discussions as children identify characters, settings and major events, and ask and answer questions about a story. Reciting poems, rhymes and songs builds coherent speech, while growing phonics and vocabulary power their spelling.
Children develop writing with guidance — combining drawing, storytelling and writing to share an event or an opinion. With phonics they turn ideas into words, spell more independently, and are even introduced to the computer as a tool to produce and publish their first writing projects.
Kindergarteners learn to count to 100 by ones and tens and write numbers to twenty, connecting each number to a quantity. Addition comes to life through objects, fingers, drawings, sounds and equations; subtraction through hands-on problem-solving. Music is woven in to accelerate the spatial-temporal reasoning behind strong math skills.
Children explore life, physical, earth and space science by observing, altering and noticing what happens — using all their senses to build measurement and classifying skills. They run simple investigations: predicting, gathering and interpreting data, spotting patterns and drawing conclusions. Dance is integrated to mirror how materials move and change.
A joyful introduction through songs, drawing, coloring and cultural visual aids. Children learn most easily when taught by song — especially with hand and body gestures that engage them kinesthetically — and music reinforces pronunciation, accent and vocabulary.
